Project

Renault – In-car UX for dual-screen system (OpenR / R-Vision)

Context

In-car multimedia system combining two screens: a panoramic driver display and a central touchscreen. Complex automotive constraints, safety requirements and strong technical dependencies. Collaborative work within a multidisciplinary design team.

Scope

UX design for both screens, with a focus on coherence across the ecosystem rather than isolated screens.

Problem

The system had to support a wide range of use cases while remaining readable, safe and intuitive in driving conditions. Key challenges included information density, hierarchy between screens and interaction consistency.

Objectives

• Structure information across two screens without redundancy
• Define clear navigation paths and page architectures
• Ensure fast access to critical information
• Validate interaction patterns in real usage contexts

Approach

• Definition of user flows and end-to-end journeys
• Design of page structures and information levels
• Exploration of different interaction patterns
• Prototyping of alternative UX solutions
• User testing on interaction patterns and navigation logic

Design Work

• Information architecture across driver display and central screen
• Page templates and content hierarchy
• Distribution of information according to driving context
• Interaction logic adapted to automotive constraints

User Testing

• Comparative testing of multiple interaction patterns
• Evaluation of readability, comprehension and cognitive load
• Iterations based on user feedback and observed behaviors

Outcomes

• Clearer information hierarchy between screens
• More consistent and predictable navigation
• Validated interaction patterns aligned with driving constraints
• UX recommendations integrated into the design process

Role

Product Designer / User flows, information architecture, interaction patterns, prototyping, user testing, collaborative design within the product team
